Hatay transformer theft deprives citrus orchards of water

In the Çobanağası area of Erzin district, Hatay Province, thieves stole a 160 kW high‑voltage transformer belonging to the Yeşilkent Sulama Kooperatifi. The transformer was dropped from its pole, stripped of copper and other valuable parts, and the perpetrators cut the power lines, leaving seven irrigation wells without electricity.

The loss to the cooperative was estimated at over 400,000 Turkish lira, with the transformer itself valued at about 300,000 TL. Without water, citrus trees in the region faced severe damage during their growth period. Yeşilkent Sulama Kooperatifi’s administrative affairs manager, Kamuran Vural, reported the incident to the gendarmerie, stating, "Erzin ilçemizde … 400 bin TL’nin üzerinde kaybımız var," and urged authorities to apprehend the thieves. The gendarmerie continues its investigation.
