Hatay Water Directorate offers free water to residents after pipeline upgrades cause turbidity

The Hatay Water and Sewerage Directorate (HATSU) completed new connections on the Karaçay drinking‑water transmission line on 28 July, increasing capacity and repairing faults. The work caused a temporary water‑turbidity problem in the Antakya, Defne and Samandağ districts. To compensate affected customers, HATSU added a free allocation of 1,000 litres of water to each August water bill for those districts.

In parallel, HATSU is strengthening the sewage and water infrastructure in the coastal district of Arsuz ahead of the tourism season. The project includes laying 271 km of sewer lines, 157 km of parcel‑connection lines, constructing waste‑water treatment facilities and upgrading discharge points to improve health and environmental standards. The upgrades aim to ensure reliable service during peak tourist periods and to raise the district’s overall infrastructure resilience.
