Hatay woman faces economic loss after livestock deaths

In the Reyhanlı district of Hatay, 50-year-old İde Şirin is facing severe economic hardship following the successive loss of her livestock. Şirin, who relies on selling milk to support herself and her relatives, reported that two of her calves died after falling ill.

Most recently, her most productive cow died after falling into an irrigation canal. Şirin noted that the remaining animals in her care no longer produce sufficient milk to maintain her livelihood. She also expressed frustration regarding government assistance, stating that while one animal was replaced, another was denied support because it lacked an identification ear tag.

The situation highlights the fragility of small-scale rural livelihoods in the region, which have already been impacted by previous natural disasters.
