Hatay's historic governorate building reopened after earthquake reconstruction

The historic Hatay Governorate Building, originally constructed in 1928, has been reopened following reconstruction efforts after sustaining heavy damage during the February 6 earthquakes. The building was completed in time for the October 29 Republic Day celebrations.

During the opening ceremony, Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı highlighted the structure's profound historical significance. The building served as the Presidency, Prime Ministry, and Parliament during the Hatay State era. Notably, it was the site where the Hatay State Parliament unanimously voted on June 29, 1939, to join the Republic of Turkey.

To preserve the site's architectural heritage, workers meticulously sorted and protected original stones and structural elements from the earthquake debris. The reconstruction was carried out to match the building's original identity and architectural features, serving as a symbol of Hatay's national heritage and its integration into the Turkish Republic.
