Turkish boxers advance to finals at European Championships

Turkish boxers have achieved significant success at the 2026 European Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

In the women's categories, Hatice Akbaş reached the final in the 51 kg division after defeating Poland's Natalia Kuczewska 5-0. Competing in her first major tournament at this weight, the Olympic silver medalist aims for gold against Spain's Laura Fuertes Fernandez. Additionally, Busenaz Sürmeneli secured her place in the 70 kg final by defeating Russia's Nadezhda Golubeva 3-2. Sürmeneli, a former European champion, will face Great Britain's Chantelle Reid for the title.

In the men's division, Emrah Yaşar made history by becoming the first Turkish male boxer to reach the final in the heavyweight (90 kg) category at the European Championships. After a 5-0 victory over Germany's Kevin Lebowski, Yaşar is set to compete against Spain's Enmanuel Reyes Pla for the gold medal.
