Hattikuni Reservoir water shortage threatens Kalyana Karnataka farmers
Farmers in the Kalyana Karnataka region are facing significant anxiety due to the Hattikuni Reservoir failing to fill following insufficient monsoon rains. The lack of rainfall has hindered the growth of essential crops, including pigeon pea, cotton, and millet, threatening the livelihoods of those relying on the reservoir's irrigation network, which covers over 5,400 acres across several villages.
While 68 crore rupees have been sanctioned by central and state governments for canal renovation, work has yet to commence. To ensure long-term water security and mitigate drought risks, local farmers are demanding a project to divert water from the Bhima River to the Hattikuni Reservoir, similar to existing government initiatives for 82 other lakes in the taluk.
