Hatuey De Camps: Remembering a Dominican student leader

Ten years after his passing, Hatuey De Camps is remembered as a prominent student leader in the Dominican Republic. He rose to prominence in 1970 as the leader of the Federación de Estudiantes Dominicanos (FED) at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD).

De Camps was noted for uniting various university groups through mass mobilizations to support academic causes, such as the "Medio Millón" struggle. During his leadership, he navigated complex political alliances, including the "Unidad de Acero" between the Fragua and FEFLAS groups. Following a contested re-election as Secretary General of the FED, De Camps moved to Europe to pursue a doctorate in Philosophy and Letters at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
