Haugesund police launch new search for missing 21-year-old

Police in Haugesund have launched new underwater search operations for 21-year-old Sverre Fjellet Søvik, who has been missing since Thursday, September 25. The search is focused on the Smedasundet area and the waters near the central pier, where he was last seen near Cafe MM.

Authorities are utilizing advanced technology to assist in the search, including sonar from boats, surface drones, and underwater drones provided by Equinor. Helge Varne, the investigation section leader at Haugesund Police Station, stated that the primary hypothesis is an accident, noting there are no indications of criminal activity.

Søvik, a resident of Sveio, was last digitally tracked at 10:59 p.m. on the night he disappeared. Previous search efforts involving divers and Coast Guard drones have not yet yielded any findings. Police have requested that owners of boats and boathouses in the harbor area check for any relevant clues.
