Haute-Corse faces worsening drought and water crisis

Severe drought conditions are worsening in Haute-Corse, leading to the Eastern Plain being placed under crisis status. Recent data indicates a significant degradation in water resources, with rainfall in the first half of September reaching only 6% of the monthly norm.

Groundwater levels are critically low, with 72% of monitored aquifers performing below average. The Bevinco aquifer is currently on alert, while the Luri and Figarella aquifers are under close monitoring. River flows have also seen substantial decreases, with some sectors experiencing drops of up to 75% compared to August. The Tavignano river is under particular surveillance due to its extremely low flow levels.

Water reserves managed by the Office d’Équipement Hydraulique de la Corse (OEHC) have dropped to just 27% capacity. The Calacuccia dam is at 46% capacity, and the Sampolo dam has reached its strategic stock level.
