French father jailed for threatening to behead teacher in Le Fauga

A French court in Toulouse has sentenced a 47-year-old father to six months in prison without parole following death threats made against a primary school teacher in Le Fauga. The incident occurred on September 4, after the man's nine-year-old son was disciplined for disruptive behavior. Witnesses reported the man threatened to “cut off the head” of the teacher in a school parking lot and later repeated similar threats inside the school premises.

The teacher has been placed on sick leave and granted official protection. The case has reignited national discussions regarding the safety of educators, drawing comparisons to the 2020 murder of Samuel Paty. Education Minister Edouard Geffray described the incident as being of “extreme gravity,” noting that it would serve as one of the first applications of a new summer decree designed to protect school staff from violence and hostility by parents.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a three-year ban on the defendant contacting the teacher or entering the school premises, and ordered him to complete a citizenship course. The local mayor, Jean-Marie Puig, has also called for measures to protect students and staff, including increased municipal police presence near the school.
