Haute-Savoie economy sees Bitcoin adoption and major water exports

The Haute-Savoie region in France is seeing diverse economic developments, ranging from digital currency adoption to major industrial mineral water production.

The AlpineChain association has launched the ‘Annecy Bitcoin Tour’ to encourage local merchants to accept Bitcoin as a payment method. Currently, eight partner establishments in Annecy use ‘Bitcoin accepted here’ stickers to signal availability to international tourists and tech-savvy visitors. The project aims to leverage the city’s high tourism volume to facilitate digital payments, particularly for travelers from ecosystems where Bitcoin and Lightning Network usage is more common.

Simultaneously, the Haute-Savoie region maintains a significant global presence through its mineral water industry. The Danone site in Publier-Amphion, which produces Evian, bottles approximately four million liters of water daily across thirteen production lines, serving over 140 countries. This industry supports 8,222 local jobs and contributes 364.8 million euros to the regional economy. Nearby, the Thonon plant utilizes the Versoie source to further establish the department as a major global hub for water bottling.
