Haute-Savoie launches countdown to 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships

The countdown to the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships in Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc has officially begun. On September 5, 2026, a celebratory event was held in Sallanches to mark the one-year countdown to the competition, which will take place from August 24 to September 5, 2027.

The festivities included a bicycle parade from the Côte de Domancy to Sallanches and a symbolic cycling relay on connected bikes to cover 2,027 km. The event brought together local officials and various sports figures, including six-time Olympic biathlon champion Martin Fourcade, alpine skier Alexis Pinturault, and cycling legend Bernard Hinault.

The 2027 championships are expected to be a massive undertaking, featuring 20 UCI World Championships across 16 competition sites, involving more than 15,000 athletes in both cycling and para-cycling disciplines. During the event, Bernard Hinault reflected on his own 1980 world title won on the same terrain, noting that while the landscape has changed, the challenge remains significant for future competitors like Tadej Pogacar.
