Havan offers reward for vandalizing Statue of Liberty replica in Natal
Retailer Havan has released surveillance footage showing a man vandalizing the base of its Statue of Liberty replica in Natal, Brazil. The incident occurred during the early hours of Tuesday, May 13, and lasted less than a minute. The individual wrote the phrase “sem anistia Lula 13” on the monument before fleeing the scene.
Havan owner Luciano Hang, a supporter of the Bolsonaro family, has offered a reward of R$ 10,000 for information leading to the identification of the suspect. In a press statement, Hang characterized the act as “typical leftist behavior” and compared it to recent vandalism at a metro station on Paulista Avenue in São Paulo following pro-Lula demonstrations.
Hang also referenced a viral image of a worker cleaning graffiti against Jair Bolsonaro, though fact-checking agencies have identified that specific image as AI-generated. No suspect has been identified at this time. This incident follows several other instances of vandalism involving Havan symbols and replicas in various Brazilian cities.
