Havana electric tricycle garbage project fails to meet objectives

The El Rampeño local development project in Havana’s El Vedado district has failed to meet its initial objectives for electric tricycle garbage collection. Pedro Lizardo Garcés Escalona, president of the Rampa Popular Council, admitted that the initiative, which launched in July, has not been realized as intended.

Several factors contributed to the setback, including the failure to construct a planned charging station at the corner of 23rd and J streets. Additionally, the project faced difficulties obtaining the promised tricycles from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the central government. Garcés also cited delays in finding solutions to navigate the country’s broader energy needs.

While some local institutions have provided charging support, it has not been sufficient to sustain the project. Garcés noted that while the council remains mostly clean, it has not reached optimal conditions. He attributed some hygiene issues to social indiscipline and urged residents to increase vigilance to maintain their environment.
