Havana hosts ‘Los muchos y los pocos’ contemporary art exhibition

The collective art exhibition ‘Los muchos y los pocos’ has opened in Havana, featuring works from nine Cuban visual artists across different generations and career paths. The exhibition includes Aluán Argüelles, David Beltrán, Yasiel Elizagaray, Anthony Martínez Román, Rafael Pérez Alonso, Mabel Poblet, Niels Reyes, Lázaro Saavedra, Rafael Zarza González, and Carlos Zorrilla.

Organized by the U.S. Embassy as part of the ‘Noches Americanas: Una Ventana a la Excelencia Cultural de los Estados Unidos’ program, the showcase was inaugurated on August 14 at a venue on Calle 24 in Miramar. The project aims to celebrate creativity, freedom of expression, and artistic independence by providing a panorama of contemporary art produced by independent Cuban creators.

Notable participants include Lázaro Saavedra, a 2014 National Prize for Plastic Arts winner known for conceptual art using irony and social critique, and Rafael Zarza González, a painter and engraver recognized for using animal iconography to represent human conflicts. Mabel Poblet also participates, working with themes of memory and identity through installation, photography, and collage.
