Havana International Book Fair concludes with major literary awards

The 34th Havana International Book Fair concluded with the presentation of several prestigious literary awards. Among the winners, the Guantánamo-based publishing house ‘El Mar y La Montaña’ received the ‘La Puerta de Papel’ award, granted by the Sistema de Ediciones Territoriales (SET).

The award was presented for the science fiction title ‘Secreto en lo alto de ciudad ventosa’ by Havana author Marlene Salazar Maciá. The book, which focuses on the universe of cosmetology for a young adult audience, had previously won the 2023 Regino E. Boti Literature Prize.

Other major honors distributed during the fair included the Nicolás Guillén Prize for Poetry and the Alejo Carpentier Prizes for essay, short story, and novel. The ceremonies were attended by cultural figures such as Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso Grau, Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, president of the Cuban Book Institute, and National Literature Prize winner Nancy Morejón.
