Havana neighborhoods protest water shortages and power outages

Residents of the Mantilla district in Havana’s Arroyo Naranjo municipality blocked a main road on Sunday and held a cacerolazo demanding the restoration of water service. Independent journalist Luis Cino confirmed the demonstration, and videos show participants shouting “¡Sin agua!” and “¡Tenemos hambre!” while carrying buckets. Police presence was noted, and after more than 15 hours water trucks arrived, after which the protest dispersed.

A separate protest took place in La Coronela, La Lisa municipality, where residents marched against recurring electricity outages and assembled in front of the local Communist Party office. Police intervened without violence, and protesters cited the need for reliable electricity, food, and freedom.

Both incidents highlight growing public discontent in Havana over prolonged shortages of basic utilities and the authorities’ response.
