Havana resident arrested after protesting water crisis

Sady R. Companioni, a resident of the Lawton neighborhood in Havana, was detained by police on Friday. The arrest occurred after Companioni publicly criticized the local water crisis and reported receiving threats for demanding essential services.

According to reports, four uniformed officers, including members of the Search and Capture unit, arrived at her home without a prior summons. Companioni stated that her parents and six-year-old daughter were present during the encounter. She was subsequently taken to the Aguilera police station.

The detention follows a period of tension involving local officials. Companioni had previously reported being filmed and harassed by a local official after complaining about water distribution issues, including an incident where a water truck allegedly excluded her home from service. She had expressed fear for her safety in recent posts but maintained that she would not remain silent.
