Havana residents protest water and electricity shortages

Residents in Old Havana, specifically near the intersection of Monserrate and Obrapía, staged a protest to demand the restoration of water and electricity services. Demonstrators blocked the street with various objects to express frustration over the instability of these basic utilities.

National Revolutionary Police (PNR) officers arrived at the scene to remove the obstacles used to block traffic. Following the police intervention, authorities reportedly promised to restore both water and electricity, though no specific timeline for normalization was provided.

This incident follows a series of similar demonstrations across Havana in recent months. Previous protests have occurred in neighborhoods such as Belén, San Isidro, and near Villegas street, driven by prolonged blackouts, water shortages, and food scarcity. Infrastructure issues, including a breakdown in the Cuenca Sur hydraulic system, have contributed to the worsening service disruptions in the capital.
