Cuba introduces Chinese trucks to address waste collection crisis

Cuba is implementing new measures to address critical waste management and sanitation issues in Havana and the Mayabeque province. In Havana, the government has introduced 20 Chinese-made trucks and over 240 Ampliroll-type containers to aid solid waste collection. The initiative, costing over one million euros and fully funded by the Cuban government, aims to mitigate a severe deficit in the city's fleet. Authorities noted that while the equipment will help, it is not a definitive solution to the ongoing crisis.

In the municipality of Güines, Mayabeque, local sanitation efforts are being bolstered by private and specialized companies. The MIPYME Soluciones REOME and the company Eco Residuos VF are working to eliminate micro-dumpsites and improve hygiene in neighborhoods and local institutions, including the Manuel Piti Fajardo Maternal and Child Hospital. These efforts come as the country faces challenges such as fuel shortages and an energy crisis that impact both waste collection and industrial production.
