Havana telebanking services disrupted by electric company server failures
Telebanking services for paying electricity bills in Havana are currently disrupted due to external server link failures at the Unión Eléctrica (UNE). The Havana Electric Company announced the issue on Friday, August 14, noting that the Enterprise for Automation, Technology, and Information (ATI) is collaborating with ETECSA to resolve the technical fault.
This incident follows similar disruptions earlier in August, when digital payments via Transfermóvil, Enzona, and ATMs were halted. In those instances, UNE attributed server difficulties to collapses within the National Electric System (SEN).
The ongoing instability in the electrical infrastructure has been significant; in 2026, the country has experienced at least seven total SEN collapses. Recent reports indicate a major power deficit, with UNE forecasting a shortage of 2,140 MW against a demand of 3,300 MW.
