Havana to host 47th Latin American New Cinema Festival

The 47th edition of the Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano (FINCL) is scheduled to begin in Havana on December 3. This year, Brazil will serve as the focus country, highlighting the history and contemporary relevance of South American cinematography.

A central theme for the festival's debates, classes, and conferences will be the use of artificial intelligence in cinema. The event will also feature industry programming, including the fourth Juan Padrón in Memoriam Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum, and workshops organized by the Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano in collaboration with the Instituto de Información y Comunicación Social.

Additionally, the festival will honor the centenary of Cuban filmmaker Julio García Espinosa (1926-2016). Espinosa, a former president of the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), is recognized for his theoretical contributions to the concept of ‘imperfect cinema’ and his role in the development of Cuban film and the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV).
