Haverfordwest Castle undergoing £17.7m redevelopment in Wales

Haverfordwest Castle in Pembrokeshire, Wales, is undergoing a £17.7 million redevelopment to transform the 800-year-old site into a major visitor attraction. The project is part of a wider Haverfordwest regeneration initiative and is expected to reopen in 2028.

The restoration includes conserving the medieval structure and landscaping the Inner Bailey to accommodate events for up to 500 people, such as concerts, plays, and markets. The Governor’s House will house a refurbished Haverfordwest Museum, while the former gaol building will be converted into an interactive family attraction featuring a café and shop.

Funding for the scheme is provided by the UK Government, the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns fund, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with match funding from Pembrokeshire County Council. The project aims to boost the local economy by creating a flagship heritage destination.
