Havering Council launches free weight management service

The London Borough of Havering has launched the Havering Weight, Wellness and Activity Service, a free 12-week programme designed to help adults achieve and maintain a healthier weight. Delivered by Gro Health on behalf of Havering Council, the initiative provides support through healthy eating guidance, physical activity, and overall wellbeing coaching.

The service offers both face-to-face and digital options. In-person support includes 12 weeks of group sessions at community venues featuring 20 to 30 minutes of physical activity per session. Digital support includes virtual one-to-one coaching via video or telephone, and 12 months of access to the Gro Health digital platform, which provides recipes, meal plans, and wellbeing resources. The platform is available in 18 languages.

The programme is available to adults aged 18 and over with a BMI above 30, or a BMI above 27.5 for individuals from Asian, Black, or other ethnic minority backgrounds. Following the completion of the course, participants will have access to support for up to 12 months.
