Havlíčkův Brod expands municipal solar energy infrastructure

The city of Havlíčkův Brod has significantly expanded its renewable energy infrastructure, constructing nine photovoltaic power plants on municipal buildings since 2022. A tenth plant is currently under construction at Nuselská Primary School as part of a 30 million CZK project to reduce the building's energy intensity. This project is being co-financed by European Union funds.

Through the municipal company Teplo HB, the city has invested approximately 8.5 million CZK in the first nine solar installations, with subsidies covering roughly 6.7 million CZK of those costs. The current total installed capacity on municipal objects is 338.7 kWp, but the city aims to exceed 812 kWp by adding at least five more plants, primarily on kindergartens, and pursuing additional grant-funded projects.

To manage electricity more efficiently, the city established an energy community that shares electricity across 12 consumption points. Currently, about 60 percent of the electricity produced is consumed on-site, while approximately 25 percent of the surplus is utilized through sharing. At Nuselská Primary School, the transition to heat pumps last year is estimated to have saved 500,000 CZK during the previous heating season.
