Hawaii crime rate fell nearly 12% in 2025

Hawaii’s total crime rate fell by 11.6% in 2025 compared to 2024, according to data from the state Department of the Attorney General. A total of 54,089 “Group A” criminal offenses were reported statewide, representing a rate of 3,775 offenses per 100,000 residents.

Notable decreases were recorded in the percentages of murder, manslaughter, rape, and car theft. However, the state reported increases in burglary, drug, and gambling offenses. Regarding weapon usage, firearms were allegedly used in 884 reported crimes, while hands, fists, and feet were the most frequently used weapons in 9,785 reported offenses.

The statewide crime clearance rate, which includes offenses solved by arrest or closed through exceptional means, has risen annually since 2021. In 2025, police departments cleared 13,260 crimes, a clearance rate of 24.5%, up from 22.7% in 2022.
