Hawaii Department of Education resumes in-person learning for Ka‘u students
The Hawaii Department of Education has announced plans to resume in-person learning for students at Ka‘u High & Pahala Elementary School and Na‘alehu Elementary School following recovery efforts from Hurricane Lala.
At Ka‘u High & Pahala Elementary, in-person instruction and transportation are scheduled to resume on Monday, August 31. Although full power has not been restored to the campus, the department is preparing to reopen using on-site generators to support the cafeteria and administrative offices. Staff will work throughout the week to prepare the campus.
Due to necessary restoration work at the Na‘alehu Elementary campus, students will temporarily transition to in-person learning at the Ka‘u District Gym. Students will initially receive instructional packets for at-home learning, with a rotational in-person schedule at the gym beginning on Wednesday, September 2. The department is working to finalize transportation and timing details for this transition.
