Hawaii Department of Health confirms seventh dengue case on Oahu

The Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed a seventh travel-related dengue virus case in the state for 2026, located on Oahu. The individual was exposed to the virus while traveling internationally in a region where the disease is common. Health officials stated that no connection has been identified between this case and any previous infections in Hawaii.

While the expected risk of local transmission is considered low, health officials have deployed teams to implement mosquito-control measures in the affected area. The department noted that recent flooding from Tropical Cyclone Lala and forecasted rain increase the importance of eliminating standing water to prevent mosquito breeding.

Dengue is not endemic to Hawaii, and all seven cases reported this year have been linked to international travel. To date, five cases have occurred on Oahu, one on Maui, and one on Kauai.
