Hawaii Health Department shuts Baan Thai Family Cuisine in Kona over rodent infestation

The Hawaii Department of Health closed Baan Thai Family Cuisine, located at 75‑5744 Ali‘i Drive in Kailua‑Kona, after a routine inspection uncovered an abundant amount of rodent feces and multiple critical food‑safety violations. Inspectors cited visible pest entry points, improper food storage, failure to maintain proper temperatures for potentially hazardous foods, inadequate hand‑washing facilities, and other sanitation issues.

The restaurant, operated by Miyavadee Khamya, was issued a red “closed” placard and must remain shut until it discards contaminated food, seals all entry points, undergoes professional pest‑control treatment, thoroughly cleans and disinfects all surfaces, repairs equipment, and retrains staff on proper food‑handling and hygiene practices.
