Hawaii named most adventure-friendly U.S. state
Hawaii has been named the most adventure-friendly state in the United States according to a new analysis by the outdoor apparel brand Kühl. The study utilized the Adventure Access Index, which prioritizes accessibility over total land area.
Unlike traditional rankings that focus on sheer square mileage, this index quantifies how often and how easily travelers can access outdoor destinations. The methodology incorporated government data regarding weather conditions, trail accessibility, public land per capita, and local economic support.
While states like California, Colorado, and Oregon are traditionally associated with outdoor adventure, they ranked lower in this specific metric. California secured the fifth position due to its extensive trail network and favorable weather, while Oregon placed ninth. Hawaii topped the list due to its compact geography, sunny climate, and high levels of economic support for outdoor activities.
