Hawaiʻi placed under flood watch as moisture from former Tropical Storm Norbert arrives

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the entire state of Hawaiʻi as moisture from the former Tropical Storm Norbert moves across the islands. The system, which has weakened into a remnant low, is expected to bring moderate to heavy showers and a chance of thunderstorms from Wednesday night through Friday morning.

Forecasters warn of an increased risk of flash flooding, particularly on the Big Island, due to high existing soil moisture from previous rain events. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated in windward and mauka areas. Residents in flood-prone regions have been advised to avoid crossing flowing water in vehicles or on foot.

Additionally, Tropical Depression 15-E is moving westward in the Eastern Pacific. There is a potential for further increasing moisture from its remnants to reach the islands around next Tuesday or Wednesday.
