Hawaii State Senate urges Trump to provide more weapons to Ukraine

The Hawaii State Senate has passed Resolution 179, calling on President Donald Trump and the U.S. Congress to provide new weapons to Ukraine. The resolution aims to assist Ukraine in defending itself against Russia and reclaiming territory recognized as Ukrainian under international law.

While the resolution is non-binding and cannot dictate U.S. foreign policy or allocate federal funds, it has been officially submitted to the Congressional Record and forwarded to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The measure passed with three Republican senators voting against it, while the majority supported the call for increased military support.

This state-level action comes amid ongoing debates in Washington regarding the extent of American support for Kyiv. Recent federal legislative efforts include the Ukraine Support Act, which authorized over $1 billion in aid and military financing, as well as Senate efforts to expand sanctions against Russia and Iran.
