Hawthorne man arrested after traffic stop reveals drugs and illegal firearm

An 18-year-old Hawthorne man, Latrelvious Jahmar Strickland, faces four felony charges following a traffic stop in Alachua County, Florida, on August 27. Deputies pulled over the vehicle near SE U.S. Highway 301 after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and made a wide turn.

During the stop, deputies noted the smell of burnt marijuana and observed that Strickland was driving with a learner’s permit that he did not have in his possession. Strickland reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana approximately one hour before driving.

A probable-cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a handgun with an obliterated serial number, an AR-15-style air rifle without an orange tip, a digital scale, and over 60 grams of marijuana. Additional marijuana was also reportedly found on the driver during the arrest process.
