Hay bale presses destroyed by fire at farms in Engden and Aulendorf, Germany
Two separate incidents in Germany saw hay bale presses ignited and reduced to total loss. In Engden, a press caught fire during field work, prompting a rapid response from local fire services. In Aulendorf, a 22‑year‑old tractor driver noticed the blaze, moved the equipment onto a neighbouring potato field and attempted to extinguish it, but the fire reignited later, requiring a second deployment. Both incidents caused equipment damages estimated at roughly €350,000 each, with no injuries reported.
Authorities noted that such machinery can ignite when foreign objects, such as stones, are drawn into the moving parts, producing sparks that start the fire.
