Hayden Panettiere death investigation focuses on fentanyl-laced pills
Authorities are investigating the death of American actress Hayden Panettiere, who died on August 16, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 36. Preliminary findings suggest she may have consumed oxycodone contaminated with fentanyl.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is currently analyzing text messages between Panettiere and a suspected drug dealer in Los Angeles. These digital records reportedly show exchanges regarding the purchase of pills from the black market over several years. Investigators believe Panettiere may have consumed the substances during a flight from Los Angeles to South Carolina the day before her death.
Emergency services responded to a report of a person in cardiac arrest at Panettiere's location. While paramedics attempted resuscitation, she could not be saved. The Greenville County Coroner's Office noted that a preliminary autopsy showed no signs of trauma. Investigators are awaiting final toxicology reports to confirm the exact cause of death and are working to trace the origin of the counterfeit pills.
