Hayle to honor 9/11 hero Rick Rescorla on 25th anniversary
The town of Hayle in Cornwall will hold a commemorative event on September 11, 2026, to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and honor Rick Rescorla. Rescorla, a Hayle native, became a hero during the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.
While working for Morgan Stanley in the South Tower, Rescorla utilized his military training to lead the orderly evacuation of more than 2,500 people. Although he successfully coordinated the mass exit of workers, he did not survive the attacks.
The planned commemorations include a parade starting at Penpol School, followed by a ceremony at the Rick Rescorla memorial site on Penpol Terrace. The event is expected to be attended by representatives from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, and the Parachute Regiment, alongside local dignitaries and community organizations.
