Hayley Atwell criticizes Captain Carter's death in Marvel film
Actress Hayley Atwell has expressed deep disappointment regarding the treatment of her character, Captain Carter, in the 2022 Marvel Studios film ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. Speaking at the ‘For the Love of Fantasy and Sci-Fi’ convention in London, Atwell described the character's brief appearance and subsequent death as a ‘complete disservice’ to the role.
In the film, an alternate version of Peggy Carter appears as part of the Illuminati before being killed by the Scarlet Witch using Carter's own shield. Atwell noted that the scene felt disrespectful, particularly because the character used the iconic phrase, ‘I could do this all day,’ immediately before being killed. The actress revealed that she attempted to suggest changes to the scene during filming to provide more substance, but her input was not incorporated.
Atwell, who has portrayed Peggy Carter across various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects since 2011, expressed hope for more meaningful opportunities for the character in the future.
