Haymana hosts 2nd Fish Festival to promote local industry

The Haymana Municipality organized the 2nd Haymana Fish Festival at the Haymana City Square in Ankara, Turkey. Supported by the Ankara Chamber of Fishermen, the event aimed to promote the district and increase fish consumption.

Despite lacking a coastline, Haymana plays a significant role in the national fish trade, as many residents are key players in the industry, transporting fresh fish across Turkey. During the festival, chefs prepared bonito served in bread for attendees, alongside free roasted and boiled corn.

Haymana Mayor Levent Koç highlighted the district's importance, noting that local efforts contributed to an increase in per capita fish consumption in Ankara from 3.5 kg to 4.5 kg. Koç also used the platform to promote the region's thermal waters and its historical connection to the Battle of Sakarya. Atilla Süslü, President of the Ankara Chamber of Fishermen, noted that the choice of location was strategic, as 90 percent of Ankara's fishermen are from Haymana.
