Moroccan taekwondo athlete Haythem Zagouti won a bronze medal in the under-80kg category at the Paris Grand Prix (G-6). The 21-year-old, currently ranked 15th in the Olympic standings, secured his place on the podium after three consecutive victories.
Zagouti defeated Egypt’s Ahmed Rawi, followed by a win against Belarus’s Artem Torafino in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, he overcame Russia’s Artem Mitariev to guarantee his medal. His run concluded in the semifinals against Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Jansonov, the world number six, who won both rounds.
This achievement marks Zagouti’s first medal in the Grand Prix series and brings Morocco’s historical medal count in this competition to six.
