Haywood Highsmith re-signs with Phoenix Suns

Haywood Highsmith has re-signed with the Phoenix Suns on a one-year, minimum-salary deal for the 2026/27 season. The 29-year-old veteran wing returns to Phoenix after being waived by the team last week.

The Suns utilized Exhibit 3 language in Highsmith’s previous contract, which protected the team regarding his right knee injury management, to waive him without incurring a $1 million cap hit. By re-signing him to the new deal, which carries a salary of $3,066,143 and a cap hit of $2,449,421, the Suns aim to reduce their projected luxury tax bill.

Highsmith previously struggled with injury issues following right knee surgery in 2025, limiting him to only seven regular-season appearances during his prior stint with the team. Despite interest from other teams during his brief free agency, Highsmith chose to return to Phoenix.
