Hazardous‑waste incinerator plan near Litvínov, Czech Republic

A proposal to build a hazardous‑waste incinerator with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year has been submitted for the area near Litvínov, Czech Republic. The regional authority of the Ústí nad Labem Region will assess the project, and the public may comment until 8 July. The investor, ZOE Waste, intends the plant to process hazardous waste—such as sludge, oils, solvents and medical waste—from the nearby Celio landfill, generate electricity and possibly supply heat as steam or hot water. The facility will not handle municipal waste. Former Czech Railways chief Petr Žaluda is reported to be involved in preparing the project. The site, located in the village of Mariánské Radčice, is about 1.8 km from the nearest residence and outside the built‑up area. Currently, the only hazardous‑waste incinerator in the Ústí nad Labem Region operates in Trmice near Ústí nad Labem.
