Hazel Brugger discusses postpartum depression and Swiss childcare costs
Comedian Hazel Brugger has shared personal insights regarding her mental health and social critiques during an appearance on the podcast ‘Hotel Matze’ with Matze Hielscher.
Brugger revealed that she suffered from diagnosed postpartum depression following the birth of her first child. She noted that her psychiatrist recommended specific measures, such as daily walks and periods of rest, to manage the condition. She expressed a desire to experience the early stages of motherhood again under better circumstances, which influenced her decision to have a second child.
Additionally, Brugger criticized social issues in Switzerland, specifically highlighting the high cost of childcare. She noted that monthly costs for childcare can reach approximately 3,500 euros, a figure that can equal a monthly salary. Brugger argued that these expenses force many highly educated and ambitious women to remain at home rather than participating in the workforce.
