Hazel Manning offers leadership amid PNM San Fernando East turmoil
Internal conflict within the People’s National Movement (PNM) San Fernando East constituency has intensified following public disputes between Member of Parliament Brian Manning and the constituency executive. The rift involves allegations regarding the conduct and reputation of local representatives, specifically targeting constituency chairman Patricia Alexis.
PNM Chairman Marvin Gonzales issued a warning against members engaging in public disagreements, stating that the party leadership is addressing the issues. However, the constituency executive released a statement defending Alexis, accusing Manning of inviting a ‘public trial’ of matters currently under internal investigation. The executive noted that an investigative team has already submitted a report with findings and recommendations to the party’s General Council.
In response to the escalating turmoil, former government minister Hazel Manning has offered to serve as chairman of the San Fernando East constituency. The widow of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning stated her decision follows observations of growing concerns among constituents regarding the conduct of those representing the area. She emphasized the symbolic importance of the constituency to both her family and the PNM.
