Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport: 3 arrested with 36 bhori of gold

The Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) arrested three individuals at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, seizing approximately 36 bhori (397.7 grams) of 22-karat gold. The operation took place late Wednesday night in the basement of the airport's multi-story car park.

In addition to the gold, authorities recovered eight mobile phones and three laptops. The suspects, identified as Rabia Begum (48), Akash Ahmed (35), and Md. Jalil (46), were apprehended after attempting to flee upon noticing police presence.

Preliminary interrogations suggest the items were brought into the country via passengers from various nations to evade revenue through smuggling. Police believe the suspects are part of a long-standing gold smuggling ring operating at the airport. A case has been filed against them under the Special Powers Act of 1974.
