Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport officials intercept alcohol and gold smuggling

Authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have intercepted two separate smuggling attempts involving alcohol and gold.

Customs intelligence officers seized 38.50 liters of foreign liquor from the luggage of seven passengers arriving on Air India flight AI-2183 from Mumbai. The confiscated alcohol, valued at approximately 770,000 BDT, was found in the bags of passengers including Ajmal Haque, Mozammel Haque Bhuiyan, and others. Officials are investigating whether the passengers were acting individually or as part of an organized syndicate.

In a separate incident, the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) detained three individuals—Nasir Molla, Sohag Sheikh, and Md. Hasan Mia—after they were spotted acting suspiciously near the airport roundabout. Police recovered 861.8 grams of 21 and 22-karat gold jewelry, with an estimated market value of 13,686,160 BDT. The suspects reportedly claimed the gold was being smuggled into the country via unidentified passengers from various foreign nations.
