HBCU leaders gather in Washington for sports leadership reception

Leaders from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) gathered in Washington, D.C., on September 15 for the Salute to HBCU Sports Leadership Reception. Held at the Gensler office on K Street, the invitation-only event aimed to strengthen support for HBCUs by fostering partnerships in education, athletics, workforce development, and economic opportunity.

The reception brought together commissioners from five athletic conferences, including the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Southwestern Athletic Conference, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and the HBCU Athletic Conference. These organizations represent institutions competing in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and the NAIA.

Notable attendees included Prairie View A&M University President Tomikia P. LeGrande and Bowie State University President Aminta H. Breaux. The event also connected athletic leadership with campus presidents and professionals from the media, design, and event management sectors.
