HBO greenlights ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ drama series sequel
HBO has greenlit an eight-episode original drama series based on the bestselling novels by Kevin Kwan, serving as a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’. The series is a co-production between HBO and Warner Bros. Television.
Key members of the original cast are set to return, including Constance Wu as Rachel Chu and Henry Golding as Nick Young, both as series regulars. Ronny Chieng will also return as a series regular playing Eddie Cheng, while Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh is attached in a recurring role as Eleanor Young.
Adele Lim, co-writer of the original film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. She is joined by executive producers Jon M. Chu, Kevin Kwan, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, following the decision to expand the story through television rather than a feature film sequel to allow for deeper character exploration.
