HBO announces ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ sequel series

HBO has greenlit an original drama series serving as a sequel to the 2018 film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’. The series is scheduled for an October 2026 release, with production slated to begin in 2027.

Confirmed returning cast members include Constance Wu and Henry Golding as the central couple, Nick and Rachel, alongside Michelle Yeoh as Eleanor and Ronny Chieng as Eddie. While the series will expand on the world established in Kevin Kwan’s bestselling book trilogy, recent casting announcements have not yet included Gemma Chan or Harry Shum Jr., who played Astrid and Charlie in the original film.

Adele Lim will serve as showrunner, with Jon M. Chu returning as an executive producer. The series is expected to explore storylines from the subsequent novels, such as Nick and Rachel’s wedding and the revelation of Rachel’s biological father.
