HBO announces ‘Girls’ revival with five new episodes

HBO has announced a revival of the Emmy-winning comedy-drama ‘Girls’, nearly a decade after its 2017 conclusion. The new limited series will consist of five episodes, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.

Creator and lead actress Lena Dunham will return as Hannah Horvath, also serving as writer, director, and showrunner. The original core cast is set to reprise their roles, including Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna, and Andrew Rannells as Elijah. Executive producer Judd Apatow will also return.

Dunham stated that she had long hesitated to return to the series unless there was a specific story to tell, noting that the idea for the revival emerged as she approached her 40th birthday. The new season is expected to shift the focus from the characters' chaotic twenties to their lives in their forties. While most of the main cast is confirmed, Adam Driver was not mentioned in the official announcement.
