Jay‑Z Announces HBO Documentary Series ‘Jay‑Z in 8’ Amid 30th‑Anniversary Tour
Jay‑Z will headline an eight‑part HBO documentary series titled “Jay‑Z in 8,” directed by legendary producer Rick Rubin. The series, produced by Tetragrammaton, is executive‑produced by Shawn Carter, Daniel Kaluuya and Rubin, with Leila Mattimore and David Rohde as producers. It features in‑depth conversations about the rapper’s music, lyrics, creative process and life experiences and is slated to debut in the fall of 2026 on HBO Max.
The documentary coincides with a milestone anniversary year for the artist. In June 2026 Jay‑Z marked the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. To celebrate, he performed at the Roots Picnic in May, staged a three‑night residency at New York’s Yankee Stadium (July 10‑12) — dedicating each night to one of the anniversary albums and adding an “extra inning” show — and scheduled additional concerts in Paris (Sept 10) and Los Angeles (Oct 23). Pop‑up exhibitions and memorabilia displays have been installed across Brooklyn and Manhattan, and a teaser for the documentary was released on June 25, 2026.
The coordinated rollout blends a high‑profile documentary with a global live‑event series, offering fans a comprehensive look at Jay‑Z’s three‑decade career while reinforcing his cultural influence across music, business and fashion.
